Kuala Lumpur - Friday, 10 November 2006 Malaysians who have excelled in various sectors of the information and communications technology industry were today awarded the PIKOM National ICT Awards 2006.
Lee Book Kok, Chairman of PIKOM (Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia) said individuals or organisations will have an extra edge in their respective fields when they are recognised for their expertise.
They are Product of the year, Emerging Company of the year. Technopreneur of the year, CIO (Chief Information Officer) of the year, ICT Retailer of the year, ICT Service Provider of the year, ICT Development award and the Best IT Student Award.
In conjunction with PIKOM's 20th anniversary, the association paid a tribute to all its past chairpersons. They are Robert Teo (1987-1989), Dato' Larry Gan (1989-1991), Wan Fusil Wan Mahmood (1991-1992), Toh Kim Chye (1992-1993), Shukor Karim (1993-1995), Dan E Khoo (1995-1997), Shaifubahrim Mohd Saleh (1997-1999), Wendy Liew (1999-2001), Looi Kien Leong (2001-2003), Xavier Tan (2003-2004) and Harres Tan (2004-2005). Two long serving advisor and councillor of PIKOM Wee Kee Heng and Foo Sen Chin were also given the same tribute for their contributions to the association.

“The PIKOM past chairpersons have contributed selflessly to the association and industry at large. Their contributions are invaluable contributions are remembered on this day,” Lee said.
The awards were presented during the PIKOM National ICT Awards and Dinner 2006 by guest of honour Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik, Minister of Energy, Water and Communications Malaysia. YAB Dato Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo was present to receive the ICT Development award on behalf of the Selangor state.

The best of the Best IT Student was Ng Su Haw from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
The awards were presented during PIKOM’s National ICT Awards and Dinner 2006 that was held al the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. In celebrating the association’s 20th anniversary, the theme ‘Awesome 80s’ brought fond memories of the era. Guests were also entertained with local comedian Jit Murad. More than 800 attendees comprising senior Government officials, key information and communications technology (ICT) industry players and captains from various sectors of the industry attended the event.
PIKOM has organised the PIKOM-Computimes ICT Awards since 1989 to honour outstanding Malaysian ICT companies, products and individuals in the field of ICT for their contribution to the industry and society.
This year, the association takes on a new look to introduce the prestigious PIKOM National ICT Awards 2006. The objective is the same; that is to honour and recognise outstanding achievements of our Malaysian ICT industry players.
